At Moose Lodge Senior Pet Sanctuary, we welcome our residents knowing that their time with us may be short. Some arrive in fragile condition and surprise us with their resilience, while others slip away sooner than we could have imagined. No matter how much we prepare ourselves, there are always those who leave us too suddenly, too soon—taking a piece of our hearts with them.

Such was the case with Mindy, lovingly known as Sweet Potato—a chubby, one-eyed Pekingese with a personality that could light up a room. Mindy was a little bundle of energy and joy, always eager to greet visitors, both human and canine. She was the first to rush to the gate when someone arrived, as if she were the official welcoming committee of Moose Lodge.
But beyond her playful, cheerful nature, Mindy had a special gift. She could always sense when her humans needed comfort, instinctively knowing when to sit at your feet, curl up in your lap, or simply be there—a quiet, reassuring presence. She was a dog who loved fully and unconditionally, bringing warmth and laughter to everyone she met.
Then, in the blink of an eye, she was gone.
Her passing was sudden and unexpected, without any clear sign of illness beforehand. In her final hours, Deb held her close, whispering to her that she had permission to go. Within just a few hours, Mindy gently crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, leaving behind a silence that feels far too big for such a little dog.
She was told to ask for Moosie, and we know she has found her way to him, tail wagging, ready to greet another friend.
We’ll see you again someday, Sweet Potato. Until then, enjoy your new home, full of sunshine, warmth, and endless cuddles. 🌈💚🐾
